10 New Things you Need to Know About Microsoft’s Business Process Catalog in Mavim

The world of Dynamics 365 implementations just got a whole lot smoother. Mavim, a leader in intelligent transformation platforms, is leveraging the latest update to the Microsoft Business Process Catalog to allow organizations with a standardized framework for documenting and optimizing their business operations. This means clearer processes, faster implementations, and ultimately, a better experience for everyone involved.

Let's dive into the 10 key enhancements you need to know about in the February 2025 Update.

What’s New in the February 2025 Catalog?

The latest version of the Microsoft Business Process Catalog includes numerous improvements across many end-to-end processes. These enhancements are based on feedback from the Dynamics 365 user community through the Microsoft GitHub issue list and the Partner Advisory Board Focus Group.

1. Community Driven Improvements:

This isn't just an update; it's a reflection of the Dynamics 365 user community's voice. Microsoft has incorporated feedback from the GitHub issue list and the Partner Advisory Board Focus Group, ensuring the catalog meets real-world needs.

2. Say Goodbye to CSVs, Hello to XLSX:

No more wrestling with CSV files! The entire catalog is now available in XLSX format, making it easier to work with, especially for global audiences and when using the Azure DevOps Excel add-in. Copying and pasting just got significantly simpler.

3. Visualizing Processes with AI-Powered Diagrams:

Over 700 Level 3 process flow diagrams are now available, generated with the help of AI! These BPMN 2.0 cross-functional diagrams, available on GitHub, cover key areas like Acquire to Dispose, Order to Cash, and Hire to Retire. These diagrams provide a fantastic starting point for accelerating the discovery process during Dynamics 365 implementations.

4. Streamlined Sales with Pitch Decks:

Microsoft has created ten ERP business process pitch decks, available on Partner Hub, to simplify the sales and discovery processes for partners. Each deck aligns with the catalog, mapping process areas to Dynamics 365 features and benefits.

5. Comprehensive ERP Coverage:

The catalog covers a wide range of essential ERP processes, from Acquire to Dispose and Design to Retire, to Order to Cash and Project to Profit. This comprehensive coverage ensures you have a solid foundation for any Dynamics 365 implementation.

6. Enhanced Metadata for Configuration Deliverables:

New columns have been added to the catalog, including "Menu item name," "Application family," and "Product," providing richer metadata for configuration deliverables and making filtering and analysis easier. Remember to add these custom columns to your Azure DevOps project for seamless import.

7. Clearer Change Tracking with Update Comments:

A new "Update comments" column provides context for changes, including details from previous updates, making it easier to understand and apply updates in your Azure DevOps project. This, combined with the "Alternate process sequence ID" column, makes managing changes a breeze.

8. Process-Specific Improvements:

Several key processes have been updated and refined, including:

    • Acquire to Dispose: Streamlined and aligned with the marketing pitch deck, with updated names, merged processes, and new scenarios.
    • Case to Resolution: Processes related to recalls and returns have been integrated into the Order to Cash process.
    • Design to Retire: Refined and aligned with the marketing pitch deck, with updated names, merged processes, and new process areas.
    • Hire to Retire: Overhauled with updated names, merged processes, and new process areas for better flow and coverage.
    • Order to Cash: Aligned with the marketing pitch deck, with updated names for improved clarity.
    • Project to Profit: Updated names and significantly improved scenarios with product and deployment mode information.

9. Service to Cash Evolves to Service to Deliver:

The Service to Cash process has been renamed to Service to Deliver, and duplicated processes have been consolidated under this new structure.

10. Bug Fixes for a Smoother Experience:

Several bug fixes address issues like duplicate process sequence IDs, incorrect parent relationships, and orphaned configuration deliverables, ensuring a more stable and reliable experience.
