The New Digital Tool Kit

Discover the power of DigitalOps and the role of Mavim in driving process-driven change for modern businesses. Learn how process modeling, monitoring, and execution can enhance efficiency and success.

For modern day businesses, building out organizational processes seems like a no brainer. However, when Mavim asks prospects if they use fact-based insights to improve process execution, the answer is not always yes.

The Move to Digital Ops

To this day it is still common practice to rely on expensive interviews to look at patterns inside an organization and evaluate the success of day-to-day operations. Yet, the pandemic showed us that these types of behaviors are no longer sustainable. We no longer have the luxury of sitting next to our colleagues to understand their view on process execution.

DigitalOps (short for digital operations) is a set of technologies focused on improving the ability of organizations to deliver process driven change. Think RPA. Implementing “bots” to do repetitive, manual tasks was one of the first broadly popular DigitalOps technologies.  But there are more.  In Gartner’s own estimation, RPA is the least complex, and least value-adding of the DigitalOps technologies.

From Process Discovery to Digital Twin of an Organization with Mavim

So you’ve made a start with RPA, that is great.  It means you can already deliver some quick value to organizations by “digitizing” a part of their workforce.  But RPA is a task focused technology – so to really create broad efficiency gains, you need to think about the processes and context within which those tasks take place.

Let’s begin with process discovery. Process mining technology allows organizations to “discover” their organization’s processes and variations by creating a digital visualization of the actual execution of that process.  This makes it possible to understand where tasks can be automated with RPA, or where additional training might be necessary for certain teams.  By visualizing the process level, the organization can make decisions about how to best deliver process driven change.

Although already a step up from the “old” ways of working, process mining alone cannot account for all processes and process steps that make up an organization’s operating model, which is why Gartner mentions DTO as a DigitalOps technology that has the potential to create more impact. Process mining alone won’t be able to give information about what should have happened; it just shows you what did happen while proving the needs for a target operating model based on process specific KPIs. Together, the operational context and drill down into the live data form a Digital Twin of an Organization (DTO) – a marketplace in which Mavim is a leading vendor.

There are three components that make up a DTO: process modeling, process monitoring, and process execution. Let’s take a deeper dive to examine the role each has in the overall model and why each step is vital for an organization’s success.

  1. Process Modeling

Process modeling is the one of the three components to building out your digital twin of an organization; it is the planning and analysis phase. It is also the step where organizational context is thought out, providing the ability to define business concepts in real time. This is incredibly important to the overall picture because not only does it set the stage for what is needed in the future, but it also bridges the gap between business objectives and IT operations at the current level.

  1. Processing Monitoring

Equally as important as process modeling is process monitoring, or better yet, knowing what has happened from a business operations side. The two of these concepts go hand in hand in developing a DTO, as they both monitor the events that are occurring by looking at both strong and weak signals that represent patterns impacting a business. Both allow businesses to react in real time to known or newly discovered patterns, which leads to a strong execution plan. Instead of using the old way of thinking which consisted of putting events into a database to be dealt with later, the new way allows leaders to take insights into action instantaneously. So how does this all come together? Execution.

  1. Process Execution

Execution is the final piece of the puzzle and is established by making simple decisions that are transparent enough to ensure quality. Essentially, it is an organized and predictable way to execute and react to both disruptive external and internal events. By eliminating this risk, it creates a more cohesive and global, central idea between the three components of DigitalOps. Moreover, each component has now come together as an exact replica of your organization’s operating model And it is execution that is what is going to make a difference for future digital transformations based on the insights provided. .

What This Means for Companies and the Future

The process of moving to a more digitally focused organization may seem to be costly and time consuming, but it is important to recognize why this is necessary for success and how platforms  like Mavim eliminate the scare factors involved.

As an example, imagine you are a consulting organization who only works instantaneously and needs to deliver a program to your customers. In the old days, it would involve endless Word documents and PowerPoint slides that did not just get lost in translation, they got lost. Now, with the move to DigitalOps built on the power of a DTO, there is a collaborative environment that is created with the customer by constructing an interactive portal or documentation of the project. This is what makes Mavim a standout vendor, we do not just “do it”, we take the time to work with our customers (the partner takes the time and our platform facilitates it) to ensure every step is documented and executed.
